Rent Out Your Photography and Film Equipment for Extra Income

Photographers and filmmakers often invest in expensive equipment, but did you know you can rent out your cameras and film gear to make extra money? Renting out your equipment is a win-win. It provides renters access to high-quality gear at a fraction of the cost of purchasing it, while allowing owners to recover their costs—and even make a profit—after just a few rentals.

Here’s where you can rent out your cameras and film equipment:

ShareGrid (Recommended)

ShareGrid is an online marketplace designed for renting high-end photography and film equipment. The platform charges a 15% fee for equipment owners and an additional 5% fee for renters to facilitate the rental transaction.

For that fee, owners receive an insurance guarantee that covers 100% of your equipment up to $20,000. This is crucial because most property insurance policies exclude “voluntary parting”—which refers to situations where you lend or rent your items, and the renter fails to return them.

If your equipment is valued over $20,000, we recommend taking an additional deposit and carefully checking your renter’s ratings to avoid potential issues. While most renters are trustworthy, there have been complaints about individuals who don’t return equipment.

Other Platforms (Not Recommended)

While there are other platforms that offer equipment rentals, we do not recommend them due to frequent complaints about renters absconding with equipment. For peace of mind and reliable service, we suggest sticking with ShareGrid.
